One killed in crash south of Rapid City

RAPID CITY, S.D. (Press Release) – One person died and another person was injured Tuesday morning in a two-vehicle crash south of Rapid City.

Names of those involved are not being released at this time pending notification of family members.

A 2010 Honda CRV was making a left-hand turn from Spring Creek Road onto South Dakota Highway 79 when it pulled in front of a southbound 2004 Ford Freestar. The two vehicles collided with the Honda CRV becoming fully engulfed in flames

The 26-year-old female driver of the Honda CRV was unable to get out of the burning vehicle and was pronounced dead at the scene. The 71-year-old male driver of the Ford Freestar suffered serious non-life threatening injuries and was taken to the Rapid City hospital. He was wearing a seatbelt.

South Dakota’s Highway Patrol continues to investigate the crash.

The Highway Patrol is part of the South Dakota Department of Public Safety.
