HARTFORD, S.D. (Press Release) – One person died Saturday night in a motorcycle-pickup crash west of Hartford.
Names of the three people involved are not yet being released pending notification of family members.
A 2000 Dodge Ram 2500 pickup was stationery in the eastbound lane on South Dakota Highway 38 waiting to make a left-hand turn into a business. An eastbound Harley Davidson FXDWGI motorcycle failed to slow down in time and struck the rear of the pickup.
The 43-year-old male motorcycle driver, who was not wearing a helmet, was thrown from the motorcycle. He was airlifted to a Sioux Falls hospital where he later died as a result of his injuries.
Both occupants of the pickup, the 37-year-old male driver and the 44-year-old female passenger, were not injured. Both were wearing seat belts.
South Dakota Highway Patrol continues to investigate the crash. All information is only preliminary at this time.
