One killed in two-vehicle crash northwest of Watertown

WATERTOWN, S.D. (Press Release) – One person died Friday morning in a two-vehicle crash northwest of Watertown.

Names of the two people involved are not yet being released pending notification of family members.

A 2009 Ford Focus was westbound on South Dakota Highway 20 when it crossed the center line and collided head-on with an eastbound 2020 Cascadia Freightliner. Both vehicles went into the north ditch.

The 21-year-old male driver of the Ford Focus was pronounced dead at the scene. The 57-year-old male driver of the Freightliner was not injured. Both drivers were wearing seat belts.

That portion of Highway 20 was closed for 3 ½ hours.

South Dakota’s Highway Patrol is investigating the crash. All information released so far is only preliminary.

The Highway Patrol is part of the South Dakota Department of Public Safety.
