GROTON, S.D.(Press Release) – One person died early Wednesday morning in a one-vehicle crash north of Groton.

The name of the one person involved is not being released pending notification of family members.

Preliminary crash information indicates that a 2018 GMC Sierra pickup was southbound on South Dakota Highway 37 when it left the roadway, went into a ditch and hit a telephone pole.

The 39-year-old male driver was pronounced dead at the scene. He was wearing a seat belt.

South Dakota’s Highway Patrol is investigating the crash. All information released so far is only preliminary.

The Highway Patrol is part of the South Dakota Department of Public Safety.
