Partnership forms to build new ice arena in Watertown

WATERTOWN, S.D. (KXLG) – Watertown Mayor Sarah Caron revealed on Wednesday morning that a partnership between the Watertown Development Company and the City of Watertown has been formed to build a new ice arena in Downtown Watertown. The ice area would be located in the former Metz Bakery location.

Mayor Caron says the project will need a lot of community support in order to be successful.

Mayor Caron says a capital campaign will be needed to raise funds for the project.

The mayor said the arena would be build with two sheets of ice at an approximate cost of $15 million. That cost is only an estimate and could change depending on what is added to the facility.  One of those sheets would allow for year-round skating. The mayor says that the facility would also allow for other community functions to be there as well.
