RAPID CITY, S.D.(KBHB) – The Pennington County Sheriff’s Office says East Middle School and Valley View Elementary School in the Rapid City School District were placed in secure status for about 30 minutes Monday.
The secure status was put into effect after a Pennington County Sheriff’s Office School Resource Officer at East Middle School was told that a student had brought a knife to school.
Law enforcement says until everything was verified, both schools went into secure status.
Authorities report a male juvenile was located and arrested. He faces charges of aggravated assault, disturbance of a school and possession of a weapon at school.
Secure status was lifted without incident. No one was injured.
Authorities say no other information will be released on this matter involving a juvenile.
