Penny Hart, 80

Penny Hart, 80, of Aberdeen, SD, passed away on Tuesday, May 5, 2026, at her home, surrounded by her loving family after a courageous battle with cancer.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, May 14, 2026, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, with Father Jordon Samson officiating.

Interment will take place following the Mass at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery.

A luncheon and fellowship will follow the burial at Sacred Heart Parish Hall.

A visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 13, 2026, at Schriver’s Memorial Chapel with a liturgical wake and rosary beginning at 7:00 p.m.

Penny Lou Hansen was born to Florian “Hank” and Elizabeth “Bette” (Weisenberger) Hansen on October 31, 1945, in Aberdeen, SD. Penny attended the all-girls school, Mt. Marty, where she graduated in 1963.

On October 3, 1964, Penny married Harvey Walker. To this union, they welcomed their first daughter, Dorinda.

Later in life, she married Larry Hart, and their family was made complete with the addition of their second daughter, Heather.

Penny worked various jobs, including Avera St. Luke’s, Aman Collection, Midwest Credits, P&H Salvage, Hank’s Liquor Store, and the Brown County State’s Attorney’s Office, for over 40 years.

Penny found joy in gardening, canning, and spending time outdoors. She also enjoyed bowling, reading, horse racing, and playing Yahtzee. Above all, she cherished every opportunity to attend and support her grandchildren at their events.

Grateful for having shared Penny’s life are her daughters, Dorinda (Toby) Stugelmayer and Heather (Phil) Adajar; grandchildren: Kyle Aiden, Austin (Kate) Stugelmayer, Jazmine Hart-Crissman, Kenzington Basham, Emerie Adajar, Evan Adajar, and Ryker Adajar; one great-grandson, Harrison Stugelmayer; two sisters, Judy (Steve) Holm, Jeanne Berdewald, and one brother, Jim (Cyndi) Hansen.

Penny is preceded in death by her first husband, Harvey Walker; her second husband, Larry Hart; her parents, Hank and Bette Hansen; and her brother, Paul Hansen.

Penny’s family would like to extend their sincere appreciation to Dr. Richard Conklin, Christopher Nelson, and the entire Avera oncology team, as well as Dr. Chris Larson.
