Petition underway to put legalization of cannabis on the election ballot

YANKTON, S.D.(WNAX)- A lightning round of petition passing is underway in South Dakota in an attempt to get an initiative on next year’s ballot legalizing marijuana.

Matthew Schweich is the campaign director for “South Dakotans for Better Marijuana Laws”.

Their goal is over seventeen thousand signatures and the deadline for the petitions is November 8th. Schweich says he thinks they can get the signatures they need.

Schweich says they plan a statewide blitz to get the signatures.

Amendment “A” legalizing recreational marijuana was approved by voters in last November’s election. It was challenged and that is still being considered by the South Dakota Supreme Court.
