PHILIP, S.D.(KCCR)- A 50 year-old Philip man has been sentenced to 10 years on multiple criminal files in Haakon County.
However, Todd Thorson was given suspended prison time by Sixth Circuit Judge Christina Klinger.
Thorson was first sentenced to five years in prison in 2020 for ingesting methamphetamine.
Haakon County States Attorney Tom Maher says Thorson violated his probation twice, in 2021 and 2021 along with getting additional charges of ingesting meth and driving under the influence in Haakon County.
Klinger re-sentenced Thorson to five years for the previous offense and five for the newer charges and making them back-to-back.
However, Klinger suspended the prison time on the condition Thorson successfully complete Sixth Circuit Problem Solving Court in Pierre/Fort Pierre, which includes additional conditions and treatment.
Thorson will get credit for 180 days served in jail along with a loss of driving privileges.
The cases were investigated by the Philip Police Department and Haakon County Sheriff.
