Pierre man arrested following an incident on New Year’s Eve

PIERRE, S.D.(KCCR)- A Pierre man is facing multiple charges stemming from an assault call on New Year’s Eve.  Pierre Police Captain Dusty Pelle says officers were called December 31st around nine-pm to a reported assault in the 300 block of East 5th Street in Pierre.

Investigating officers learned 51 year-old Michael Andrews of Pierre was in a vehicle with two females driving through Pierre.  Pelle says Andrews assaulted a female driving the vehicle and she stopped and exited.  That’s when Andrews began driving and began to assault the second female, who he had a relationship with.

Andrews then led local law enforcement on a pursuit through Fort Pierre, which was called off due to weather.  The vehicle was later located in Lyman County.

Andrews and the female were transported to Avera St. Mary’s hospital where Andrews proceeded to spit on officers.

The female victim who Andrews assaulted while driving had asked to exit the vehicle.  Andrews was arrested Monday on charges including Aggravated Assault Domestic Violence, 2nd Degree Kidnapping and Grand Theft of an Automobile.
