PIERRE, S.D. (DRG News) – A 21-year-old man from Pierre has been charged with 1st Degree Manslaughter related to the weekend death of a 2-year-old.

Pierre Police captain Bryan Walz says officers were called to Avera St. Mary’s Thursday afternoon after the child arrived with suspicious injuries. The child, also from Pierre, was later flown to Sioux Falls. The toddler died Saturday.

Walz says detectives determined the injuries to the toddler were caused by Tristin Larson, who is currently being held at the Hughes County Jail. Larson is not related to the child.

The South Dakota Division of Criminal Investigation is assisting the Pierre Police Department with this case.
