PIERRE, S.D. (KCCR) – The Pierre Police Department is testing out a new tool to make the reporting of smaller incidents to police easier. Captain Bryan Walz says the Department has been offered a trial run to use an online incident reporting system.

The system is set-up for the reporting of smaller scale crimes and incidents.

Walz says the system allows users to email their information right to an officer.

The system will not eliminate the need to use 911 for emergencies.

Walz says the Department is excited to see how the system works and is encouraging feedback from the public on how the system works. There is no cost for the city during the trial period, but if the Department implements the online reporting system permanently, there would be a cost to the City of Pierre.
