PIERRE, S.D.(KCCR)- The Pierre School Board met in special session Wednesday to consider the future of a possible athletic addition to T-F Riggs High School. The estimated cost of the project has gone from five million dollars when first proposed a few years ago to 17-million to now 14-million. The District has around 10-million dollars in Capital Outlay Funds and Board president Randy Hartmann says officials have had discussions on the merits of taking on debt.
Board member Dan Cronin says he wants to be conservative on debt issues and says pending legislation could tighten the District’s financial leash.
House Bill 1048 would revise requirements on District for teacher pay. Board member Joan Adam asked about downsizing the project.
The Board approved a motion that includes waiting on the fate of House Bill 1047; talking with Colliers regarding financing and meeting with Pietz Design-Build on possible changes. Depending on those outcomes the Board may hold another special meeting to consider the project before the Board’s March regular meeting.
