Pierre suffers power outage Thursday night

PIERRE, S.D. (KCCR) – A substantial part of Pierre went dark early Thursday night; the result of a power outage.  The outage began around 6:15 p.m. with the city using Facebook to tell residents power was restored at 8:20 p.m.

City spokeswoman Brooke Bohnenkamp says crews were aware of the issue and were working to resolve it. A cause and number of impacted customers was not known late Thursday night. The outage forced Avera St. Mary’s hospital to transition to back-up generator power. Communications Director Sigrid Swenson says the hospital complex returned to municipal power around 8:25 p.m.

The outage also forced the Pierre versus Sioux Falls Roosevelt volleyball game to move to the Parkview Auditorium in Fort Pierre.
