Pierre Superintendent discuss education bills that could be on the agenda next year

PIERRE, S.D.(DRGNews)- In her proposed Budget Address last week, South Dakota Governor Kristi Noem recommended a 4% funding increase for the big three– education, healthcare providers and state employees.

Prior the regular Pierre School District Board meeting Monday night, District 24 legislators sat down with school board members and administrators to discuss what may be coming in South Dakota’s 2024 legislative session.

When recapping the legislative discussion during the regular meeting, Pierre School District Superintendent Dr. Kelly Glodt said he knows that recommended 4% increase for education is not a done deal.

He expects to voucher bills to come up again.

Another topic of discussion was the trend of more students– in South Dakota and across the country– being home schooled. Glodt said home schooling is nothing new, but it needs to be done for the right reasons.

Ideally, Glodt would like to see more checks-and-balances for home schooled students.

South Dakota’s 2024 legislative session begins Jan. 9.
