PIERRE, S.D. (KCCR) – The Pierre School Board has approved the use of a hybrid school day which will alternate in-school attendance of students at T-F Riggs High School. Principal Kevin Mutchelknaus says students would be split into two groups alphabetically; A through K and L through Z.
The change will only affect Riggs High. Mutchelknaus says some classes could fall under an exception to the hybrid model.
Pierre has between 200 to 300 close contacts to 18 currently active Covid-19 infections. Superintendent Dr. Kelly Glodt says using the hybrid model at Riggs will help reduce future close contact numbers.
Glodt says the hybrid model at the District’s elementary schools and middle school could cause problems for parents with the movement of students to and from class. There are currently no cases being reported outside of T.F. Riggs High School. Riggs, as of Friday, has 23 positive cases with 18 active and five considered recovered. The hybrid schedule begins today.
