PIERRE, S.D. (WNAX) – The Government Operations and Audit Committee of the South Dakota legislature holds its first meeting of the interim today in Pierre.
On the agenda is a review of the operation plan of the Board of Regents to replace the University Center in Sioux Falls with a new college under the University of South Dakota.
Regents President Kevin Schieffer says the wheels have been turning for some time.
When the University Center opened some legislators were concerned it was a way to open a seventh university. Schieffer says they were not far off.
Schieffer says they are looking to a new mix of students.
The college, which has yet to be named, will offer a mix of associate and bachelor’s degrees and will cooperate with Southeast Technical Institute.
