FORT PIERRE, S.D.(KCCR)- Fort Pierre’s bridge plaza under the new John C. Waldron Memorial Bridge will become a memorial of sorts to famed Naval veteran.  Mayor Gloria Hanson says military historian John Molison has been in touch with an artist from Chicago working on a Waldron tribute.

Hanson says the artist is intending to donate the scale model of the U-U-S Hornet to the City of Fort Pierre for the bridge plaza.

Hanson says the tentative plan is to place the model securely at the bridge plaza.

Hanson says the city is ready to move forward with construction of the bridge plaza once work on the new bridge is completed, which includes removal of the current John C. Waldron Memorial Bridge.
