Port Yankton supporters will consider petition drive

YANKTON, S.D. (WNAX) – Backers of the Port Yankton project will now consider a state-wide petition drive to put a constitutional amendment on next year’s ballot.

The state Senate defeated an amendment resolution Monday on a vote of 22 to 13.

Yankton Area Progressive Growth C.E.O. Nancy Wenande says their planning committee will meet again this week.

Wenande says it will be expensive to mount a petition drive.

Wenande says they plan on getting a large number of signatures.

Those signatures have to be turned in to the Secretary of State in early November.
