Preview of Inauguration activities Saturday

PIERRE, S.D.(DRGNews)- Official swearing in ceremonies for South Dakota’s new Governor and Lieutenant Governor are being held Saturday at the State Capitol Building in Pierre.

When asked about the day’s activities during a Thursday morning news conference, Governor Larry Rhoden had this to say.

Initially, Rhoden said, he planned on a low-key event, but that’s not how things turned out.

Newly confirmed Lieutenant Governor Tony Venhuizen will also be officially sworn in on Saturday.

The inaugural events at the State Capitol are open to the public and do not require tickets.

The schedule of events is:

  • 1:00 p.m. – Executive Oaths in the Capitol Rotunda
  • 1:30 p.m. – Receiving Line on the Capitol 1st Floor
  • 6:00 p.m. – Capitol Ball- doors open in the Capitol Rotunda
  • 7:00 p.m. – Capitol Ball Grand March in the Capitol Rotunda
