Aberdeen, SD (NSUWolves.com) – Northern State University head football coach Mike Schmidt announced the promotion of Kiefer Price as the Wolves next offensive coordinator today. Price joined NSU as the offensive line coach and run game coordinator in the spring of 2025, following a season as an offensive analyst and assistant offensive line coach at McNeese State University.
“Offensively, our program took a major step forward in 2025,” explained Schmidt “Coach Brown and the offensive staff created new standards as we led the NSIC in total offense. We wanted to build off of that production. Elevating Coach Price allows us to develop offensively and keep our system in place. I am eager to watch Coach Price and the evolution of our offense. Our offensive line had a very successful season and that production helped him earn this opportunity.”
“I’m incredibly grateful to Coach Schmidt for this opportunity and fired up for what’s ahead of us as a program,” explained Price. “We’ve laid the groundwork on offense, and now it’s about taking the next step and raising the standard every day. I get to work with a group of guys who compete, grind, and take pride in how they prepare — that’s the culture in this program. I’m also thankful for the support of our community and our fans, there is nothing like playing in front of the home crowd at The Bank!”
In the fall of 2025, the Northern State offensive line helped the Wolves rush for 2,538 yards on the year with a 6.59 yards per carry average, while allowing only 12 sacks. The NSU offense tallied six games with over 400 yards of total offense and led the NSIC in total offense per game with a 456.9-yard average. In addition, the Wolves notched six games without giving up a sack. They ranked top 10 in the country in yards per play and total offense per game, and top 5 in third down conversion rate and yards per carry. Northern ranked first in the NSIC in yards per game, yards per carry, and third down conversion rate.
Offensive linemen Daniel Porisch and Matt Ouellette were named to the NSIC All-Conference teams, as well as running back Wyatt Block. Porisch and Block continued their postseason accolades with Block named to the D2CCA All-Region team and Porisch earning AFCA and Don Hansen All-America awards. Porisch was the first offensive lineman All-American for the Wolves since Eric Cuka in 1999 and 2000 and earned the team’s first NSIC offensive line first team nod since 2016.
Northern spent two weeks receiving votes in the AFCA Top 25 Poll and finished the year with a 7-4 record. Two offensive school records were broken in 2025 by Block and Daniel Britt. Block’s 96-yard rushing score in the Wolves win over the University of Mary set the record for longest scoring run, while Britt averaged a school record 7.9 yards per carry.
With the MSU Cowboys, Price assisted in the development of the offense that led the Southland Conference in rushing yards, yards per carry, and rushing touchdowns. In addition, McNeese went from a 0-12 season in 2023 to a 6-6 record with Price as a member of the staff.
From 2022-24, he served as the offensive coordinator and quarterback coach for Misericordia University. The MU offense saw improvements in rushing yards per game, rushing yards per carry, points per game, and sack rate in his two seasons.
Schmidt added, “Having called plays in the past was one of the top reasons we hired Coach Price a year ago. That experience created a succession plan. He is a smart, talented, experienced play caller who develops tremendous relationships with his players and recruits. I am grateful to have Coach Price step into this new, elevated role for our program.”
Price served as the offensive coordinator, assistant head coach, and quarterbacks coach for Iowa Wesleyan University from 2020-21. The Tiger offense experienced increases in production in yards per game, passing yards per game, and points per game during his tenure.
He opened his coaching career as an assistant offensive line coach at his alma mater McMurry University in 2013, served as a graduate assistant at Jackson State in 2018, working with the offensive line, tight ends, and fullbacks, and was the offensive line coach at Oklahoma Panhandle State in 2019.
Price played four seasons at McMurry University as a member of the offensive line from 2009-2012. He was a 3-year starter, 2-time team captain, and earned All-Conference and All-American accolades. He is a member of the McMurry Athletics Hall of Fame and was named to McMurry’s All-Century team.
Price resides in Aberdeen with his wife, Madison, and their daughter. The couple are expecting their second child in the spring of 2026.
