STURGIS, S.D. (KBHB) – Sturgis Fire and Sturgis Police joined the highway patrol in responding to a propane tank that was struck on the Interstate Monday night.
Sturgis Police Chief Geody VanDewater says they received a report of a barbecue style propane tank sitting in the middle of the interstate at Exit 30.
As officers were responding, a semi-truck hit the tank. The tank became lodged underneath the truck and caught fire.
Officers, along with the semi driver, were able to extinguish the fire prior to Sturgis fire crews arriving on scene.
No injuries were reported and the incident was turned over to the South Dakota Highway Patrol for investigation.
