Protests in Sioux Falls Wednesday night over the Roe v Wade Supreme Court decision

SIOUX FALLS, S.D.(KELO & WNAX)- Two separate protests concerning the Supreme Court’s overturning of Roe v. Wade ended with arrests Wednesday night.

One protest that originated at Lyons Parks marched down Philips Avenue, where it joined the other protest.

Owen Jenkins of Sioux Falls was one of the demonstrators.

Demonstrators took to the streets, chanted slogans, and stopped traffic.

The crowd made their way South on Philips Avenue, where they were ordered to disperse by a police line.

Police Chief Jon Thum says they didn’t have a lot of information on the intentions of the protesters.

Thum says they tried to funnel the protestors back to the park.

Thum says that’s when the protest was declared an unlawful gathering.

Demonstrator Owen Jenkins describes the police response.

Several demonstrators were taken into custody for resisting arrest.

Police used smoke to disperse the crowd.
