BURKE, S.D.(WNAX)- As studies begin on possible construction of a large pumped storage hydro power plant in Gregory County, opposition is also organizing.
Lee Qualm, a former legislator from Platte, says they had another meeting Monday night in Burke.
Missouri River Energy Services is the lead in the plan that would build a large reservoir on the west bank of the Missouri River and then release the water down through generators when power is needed.
Qualm says there are concerns about the location of the reservoir.
Qualm says a lot of water would be moving around to power the project.
The studies will take years before applications for any permits. If all goes well, the plant could be online in 2035.
