WATERTOWN, S.D.(KXLG)- A new car rental agreement was reached tonight for the Watertown Regional Airport as it was approved by the City Council, but not after some clarifications from City staff.
Airport Manager Rob Cyrus explains to the Council that they received one bid from Centric Car Care Rental, doing business as Quest Car Rental, and pay 10% of the monthly gross revenue to the City of Watertown until December 31, 2028.
City Attorney Lisa Carrico gave some more background, including a change from the Airport Board.
Councilman Randy Tupper inquired if it was a National chain and confirmed it’s more of a “one-way rental.”
Airport Manager Cyrus responded that Budget had a similar operation in Watertown and that Quest Car Rental has two locations: Alamosa, Colorado, and Apalachicola, Florida.
Councilman Mike Danforth inquired what kind of vetting was done on the rental company, and Airport Manager Cyrus and City Attorney Carrico responded.
Councilman Tupper inquired about a local company being allowed on airport property and even ticketed in one instance; City Attorney Carrico gave some context.
Public Works Director/City Engineer Heath VonEye expounded.
Councilman Lynn Jurrens commented.
The Council voted unanimously to approve the agreement.
