Radiothon raises $212,000 for local businesses

ABERDEEN, S.D. (Press Release) – Today, the Aberdeen Area Chamber of Commerce and Hub City Radio hosted the Small Act – Big Impact Radiothon to sell $25 gift cards or gift certificates from participating merchants to local citizens and businesses. The goal of the radiothon was to help local Chamber of Commerce members through the negative effects, to their businesses, caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. The radiothon raised $212,000 for local businesses.

The radiothon kicked off at 10 a.m. and callers and participating businesses were thrilled to hear that their purchases would be matched up to $90,000 by a group of community-minded businesses and individuals who pooled together funds to match call-in orders. Callers could order as many gift cards as they wanted and donated dollars matched up to $100 per person, per business, on most gift card purchases, until funds were depleted.

The campaign will continue to sell $25 gift cards or certificates to participating local chamber member restaurants, retailers, and small businesses through April 17, 2020. Orders can be placed by:

An order form, including a list of local participants, can be found at www.aberdeen-chamber.com/SABI.

After April 17, 2020, Chamber staff will contact all businesses with their total number of $25 gift cards purchased and will arrange pick up and payment of those cards, by check through the Chamber office. The goal is to have a check in the business owners’ hands, and all gift cards mailed out to purchasers, by May 1, 2020. There will also be a grand prize drawing at the end of the campaign for anyone that purchases $250 or more in gift certificates for an “Ultimate Aberdeen Package” worth over $500.

The Chamber and Hub City Radio are not profiting from this campaign. 100% of sales will go to the businesses.
