PIERRE, S.D. (WNAX) – The South Dakota State Railroad Board acted on nine proposals received by the South Dakota Department of Transportation for the possible sale of state-owned railroad assets.
The Board’s decision was to authorize the SDDOT to enter negotiations with LG Everist for acquisition of the Sioux Valley Line located south of Canton. The Board also decided to reject the other operating proposals that were received.
Joel Jundt with the D.O.T. says they may listen to other offers again next year.
Jundt says they will listen to interested parties at a later date.
Board Chairman Jerry Cope says they will listen to any offers that come along.
The state bought the lines following the 1980 bankruptcy of the Milwaukee Road.
