Rapid City Council to discuss land west of the city for a tribal community center

RAPID CITY, S.D.(KOTA)- The Indian Boarding School Lands Committee will host a public meeting to provide an update regarding three parcels of land located on Sioux San Drive in West Rapid City.

Rapid City Mayor Steve Allender described the situation is complicated and decades old.

Allender said indigenous groups are motivated by the story of what happened on the site of the Sioux San Hospital.

Allender said the agreement reached with indigenous groups is not a land swap.

A special meeting of the Rapid City Council will be held at the Journey Museum July 8th at 6:00 p.m. to discuss the issue.
