Rapid City Fire Department responds to suspicious fires

RAPID CITY, S.D. (KOTA) – A pair of fires took place at the same address on 11th street in Rapid City overnight. Crews were quickly able to put out each fire, but suspicious circumstances surround the blazes. Rapid City Fire Department public information officer Tessa Jaeger said the first happened before midnight.

During the second response though, a door had appeared to be broken with the fires inside the structure.

At this time it remains unclear if the fires were an attempted arson, or if they were even related to one another in the first place.

If firefighters were wishing for a nap Wednesday though they didn’t get one, as a structure and grasslands fire in Hermosa earned assistance calls from fire departments all over the Black Hills, including from RCFD on Wednesday morning.
