RAPID CITY, S.D.(KOTA)- There was a police presence, both on the sidelines and among the marchers, at this week’s protest in Downtown Rapid City.
Brendyn Medina, spokesperson for the Rapid City Police Department, explained what the official role of the RCPD is during protest situations.
Medina addressed the officers who joined in the march.
Medina said the atmosphere was largely welcoming.
There were some unplanned speakers who specifically targeted police, but no direct confrontations came from the rally. Other speakers said organizers were focused on ensuring a peaceful demonstration process.
