PIERRE, S.D. (WNAX) – Federal rules dealing with industrial hemp production and transportation were released earlier this month but haven’t answered all questions.

South Dakota Attorney General Jason Ravnsborg says the rules on moving hemp are pretty thin.

Industrial hemp is illegal in South Dakota but the federal rules allow the movement of hemp across the state.

Ravnsborg says there are rules in moving most other types of products.

Ravnsborg says law enforcement needs more help in understanding the rules.

The interim industrial hemp legislative committee will meet early next month to come up with recommendations for the 2020 session.
