Re-districting committee to meet later in April

YANKTON, S.D.(WNAX)- The re-districting committee set up by the South Dakota legislature will have a short time to get a lot of work done.

Representative Ryan Cwach of Yankton is a member of the committee and says their first meeting is set for later this month.

The official Census numbers should have been available in January but may not arrive until late this summer.

Cwach says they will have software to use with the latest unofficial data.

Cwach says its likely there will be areas that gain legislative districts.

Under the constitution, the state is limited to 35 legislative districts, with two Representatives and one Senator from each. A special session of the legislature will be needed to approve the districts before January first.
