SIOUX FALLS, S.D.(HubCityRadio)- The second of three scheduled debates involving Republican candidates for South Dakota Governor was held Monday night in Sioux Falls.

Economic Development:

South Dakota Governor Larry Rhoden touted his record since becoming governor in 2025.

Congressman Dusty Johnson discuss how Governor Rhoden signed three bills into law increasing state sales tax.

Speaker of the South Dakota House Jon Hansen talks about his focus will be on small businesses in South Dakota.

Aberdeen businessman Toby Doeden talks about looking at all projects being developed from in state and out of state.

Agriculture:

Congressman Johnson is looking at establishing college degrees to focus more on agriculture.

Speaker Johnson tout his record on property rights against Green New Deal ideas.

Doeden talks about the issue of affordability for farmers and ranchers.

Governor Rhoden discussed what the administration had done to address trade with foreign markets.

Property Taxes:

Property taxes still continue to be the issue that’s garnishing different opinions from the candidates.

Doeden discuss if elected trying to phase out property taxes over time.

Speaker Hansen questions both Doeden and Congressman Johnson’s proposals to address property taxes.

Congressman Johnson continue to go after Governor Rhoden and Speaker Hansen over the bills passed this year.

Governor Rhoden challenged Congressman Johnson’s claim on the increased state sales tax.

The third and final scheduled debate will take place Monday, April 27th in Sioux Falls.
