Recap of 3rd Legislative Coffee(Districts 1 & 23)

ABERDEEN, S.D.(HubCityRadio)- The third and final Legislative Coffee was held at Northern State on Saturday.  The members from District 1 & 23 that were able to attend was Representatives Logan Manhart & Nick Fosness from District 1 & Senator Mark Lapka from District 23.  Unable to attend were Senator Michael Rohl of District 1.  He was at the first two legislative coffees.  From District 23 Representatives Spencer Gosch(Didn’t attend any of the three) and Scott Moore(He was at the first two coffees).

District 23 Senator Mark Lapka:

Senator Lapka is on the Appropriation Committee and he talks about working on the budget for FY2027.

Lapka was asked about a bill dealing with charter schools(SB218).

Lapka discussed his concerns about some of the bills dealing with property tax relief.

District 1 Representative Logan Manhart:

Representative Manhart talked about one of the bill awaiting signature by the Governor.  SB137 which address SLAPP.

Manhart was asked about SB96 & SB245.  Both dealing with property tax relief.

With over 570 bills introduced this year, Manhart discuss whether this might be too many to address in a 40 day session.

District 1 Representative Nick Fosness:

Representative Fosness talks money from the One Big Beautiful Bill set aside for rural healthcare.

Fosness talks about his support for SB96.

Fosness also addressed SB190 that dealt with parents’ rights which was defeated on the South Dakota House floor.

All three legislators that were present all planned to run for re-election for their perspective seats.
