Recap of District 1 Senate Debate held Wednesday

ABERDEEN, S.D.(HubCityRadio)- The candidates for District 1 Senate held a debate at the KSDN studios.  They were the incumbent Republican Senator Michael Rohl & his opponent Independent candidate Susan Wismer.

Both candidates were in agreement on a number of differents issues.

On the issue IM27 which would legalize recreational marijuana both candidates were in support of it.

Wismer talks about why she now support it when she was opposed two years ago.

Senator Rohl talks about why he will support IM27.

On the issue Amendment D which would expand Medicaid, both candidates would support that amendment.

Wismer feels this should have been put in place a long time ago.

Rohl talks about his support of Amendment D that would benefit the rural communities.

Both candidates discuss their opposition to the repeal of the grocery tax that both Governor Noem & her challenger Jamie Smith would like to implement.

On the issue of abortion, Wismer talks about this decision should be made between the patient & the doctor.

Rohl feels the trigger law that’s now in place should include rape & incest.

The only time the two candidates disagreed was the issue of endorsements by the teachers.  Wismer talks about lobbyists getting involved in Rohl’s campaign.

Rohl fired back saying that not all incumbents got those endorsements.
