ABERDEEN, S.D.(Hub City Radio)- The Aberdeen Chamber of Commerce in conjunction with the League of Women Voters in the Aberdeen Area held a District 3 House Candidate Forum Tuesday at the K.O.Lee Public Library.

The three candidates running for the two seats representing the city of Aberdeen are Republicans Tim Hanigan and Spencer Sommers and Democratic candidate Erin Ronayne Rudner.

Platform:

During their opening remarks, each candidate talked about what they hope to accomplish if elected.

Hanigan looked to focus on affordability and education.

Rudner looked to focus on education and how to improve life in Aberdeen.

Sommers also looked to focus on education as well as housing.

Local Control:

All three candidates believed the city and county can best serve the region over state government.

Tim Hanigan believed city and county government offered more flexibility.

Erin Ronayne Rudner discussed taxes.

Spencer Sommers focused on education.

Data Centers:

Each candidate expressed their views data centers.

Hanigan discussed what this legislature did in this year’s session.

Rudner talked about her concerns involving what type of data centers could be coming.

Sommers told the audience that this topic is not as obvious as it appears.

Challenges:

Each candidate was asked about their biggest challenge they faced and how they overcome.

Hanigan talked about the plant he worked at was shut down but led to him working with the Aberdeen Development Corporation.

Rudner admitted her history with alcoholism over thirty years ago and how she overcame that.

Sommers talked about the issue of the two way Main Street which led to his reason why he decided to run for the South Dakota House.

The election will take place on Tuesday, November 3rd.
