MURDO, S.D.(KCCR)- A small group of Jones County middle schoolers got lessons in leadership this summer as part of the inaugural Crossroads Youth Leadership program. Murdo Economic Development Director Ashley Geigle says he wanted to take what she learned in Leadership South Dakota and expand it to youth.
Four students from the Jones County fourth, fifth and sixth grades took part in the summer program and Geigle says they were able to keep the kids engaged and learning.
Geigle says the program showed her younger kids want to be involved in their communities.
Geigle is hoping she and Jones County 3rd grade teacher Abby Martinez hope to grow the program to expand it to include other schools and counties across central South Dakota. This year’s class graduated August 18th
