Recap of Monday night’s Aberdeen City Council meeting

ABERDEEN, S.D.(HubCityRadio)- Monday night was the first city council meeting in Aberdeen of Fiscal Year 2024.

The City Council elected Councilman Alan Johnson to be Deputy Mayor for the second straight year on a unanimous vote.

The Council also reassigned liasons for the various departments.  The only changes compared to last year is Councilwoman Erin Fouberg will be with Downtown while Councilman David Novstrup moved to Hotel Alliance.  Councilwoman Tiffany Langer will be an alternate for Downtown.  Check out www.Facebook.com/HubCityRadioNews for video to check who all will be doing what this fiscal year.

Other topics discussed into the issue of housing.

Lobbyist for the City of Aberdeen, Julie Johnson talked about some of the resolutions discussed at the meeting.

Johnson talked about how Aberdeen played a big part in getting SB41 passed the legislature.

Those resolutions all passed unanimously.

Another topic was the official newspaper for the city this fiscal year.  Councilwoman Charlotte Liebelt questioned why it was the Aberdeen American News instead of Aberdeen Insider.

City Attorney Ron Wager explains the requirement needed to qualify

Wager talks that the Insider has only been around for less than twelve months.

Aberdeen Insider went digital at the start of the year & started publishing in April.

The city also addressed an amendment with regards to snow removal procedures.

City Engineer Robin Bobzien felt concerns about when this is done intentional to the staff at Public Works dealing with snow removal.

The council also voted unanimously on the first reading of this.  The second reading will take place next Monday.
