PIERRE, S.D.(WNAX)- The House and Senate Committees that will redraw South Dakota’s legislative districts began their speed round of meetings in Pierre Monday.
The committees have to work through just received Census data and agree on maps that rework the states thirty five legislative districts.
Senator Jim Bolin of Canton says while the public can submit their own maps, there has to be a limit on how many can be officially considered.
Bolin says there are also legal considerations in drawing maps in native American areas.
Committee members also debated who has access to the official map drawing software. Representative Jon Hansen of Dell Rapids says all legislators should have access.
The committees have to agree on a map to submit to a special session of the legislature scheduled for November eighth.
