Recap of SDDOT’s appearance in Aberdeen Tuesday

ABERDEEN, S.D.(HubCityRadio)- On Tuesday night, members of the South Dakota Department of Transportation made an appearance here in Aberdeen.

Division Director for Planning & Engineering Mike Behm discuss one of the main focus of the meeting was safety.

Behm talks about how the SDDOT gets funding for various projects.

Behm discuss the increase in fatalities on the roads over the past few years.

District 3 Representative Brandei Schaefbauer whose also on the House Transportation Committee recommends people download the 511 app.

District 3 Representative Carl Perry discuss ways to better see stop signs on the roads.

Aberdeen Region Engineer Mark Peterson discuss some of the roadwork scheduled in the region starting in 2024.

Another issue addressed is dealing with snowplows on the highways during the winter time.  Director of Operations Craig Smith discuss what they are doing to make it safer for the drivers.

Plows can be on the highway with as little as 1/8 of an inch of snow on the road.  Their times of operation is 5am-7pm.

Some other ways to decrease fatalities on the roads are wearing your seatbelts & don’t text and drive.
