Recap of Senator Mike Rounds’ interview with Hub City Radio

ABERDEEN, S.D.(HubCityRadio)- Senator Mike Rounds spent Friday at this year’s Brown County Fair.  Prior to that he appeared on the KSDN Midday Report to update what’s been happening in Washington.

This week school was back in session across South Dakota.  Back in April, Senator Rounds introduced a bill to eliminate the Department of Education. Rounds talked about how the Department of Education came about.

Rounds address what the purpose of the bill was.

School boards all across the state and likely across the country are setting their budgets for this year.  For now the budgets appear to be intact.  Senator Rounds address what could happen to funding going forward beyond the school year.

Senator Rounds talked about the potential future of AI in the financial industry.

Senator Rounds was asked about the recission package that involved the cuts to PBS & NPR.  He was an opponent of the bill because the bill would have taken funding away from tribal radio stations.  Rounds reach out to leadership and assured those stations wouldn’t be impacted and that allowed him to be in favor the bill.

Rounds note that he didn’t have issues with SDPB and compared that to other public broadcasting stations across the country.

Rounds also updated on the NDAA and the impact it would have to South Dakota.  He talks about the impact on Ellsworth and the package for the Army National Guard in Watertown.

Rounds’ seat in the 2026 election is in play.  He was asked about his political future.
