Recap of the Alzheimer’s Association seminar held in Aberdeen

ABERDEEN, S.D.(HubCityRadio)- On Thursday, the Program Director for the Alzheimer’s Association Michelle Lutner performed a seminar dealing with communicating with those dealing with Alzheimer’s disease.

Lutner talks about the theme of the presentation.

Kutner broke it down in the three stages of Alzheimer’s.

Early Stage:

Kutner inform the public that citizens at the early stage still is able to communicate verbally.

Kutner emphasize that people in the early stage of it could still be in denial of having it.

Kutner talk about connecting to them by constantly keeping in communication with them.

Middle Stage:

Kutner describe what people with Alzheimer’s dealing with common items that they may use different names for.

Kutner tells the public the importance of providing what name people with Alzheimer’s may want to be called.

Kutner also tells the public that people with Alzheimer’s are not knowing that this maybe 2024.

Late Stage:

Kutner inform everyone that in the late stages of Alzheimer’s, they generally don’t communicate verbally.  She emphasizes connecting with those indivduals with our five senses starting with touch.

Kutner then moved on to sight and making sure you have constant contact with them at this stage.

Kutner moved on to sound and addressing music they would like to hear.

Kutner then talked about smell.

Kutner finally addressed taste which those at this late stage can find to be very difficult.
