Recap of Work Session addressing the Promotional Fund

ABERDEEN, S.D. (Hub City Radio)-

Prior to the city council meeting, they held a work session focusing on what to do with the promotional fund.

Aberdeen City Manager Dave McNeil talked about the $110,000 going toward Dacotah Prairie Museum.

The council were in agreement with that.

The main focus though was on the event fund.

Aberdeen Economic Development Amber Schwab talked about how this fund can benefit the community.

One concern raised in the meeting back on October 19th was getting more organizations involved.  Schwab addressed that.

Schwab informed the council that anything less than $10,000, their department would handle that.

Anything more than that would have to seek approval from the city.

Executive Director of the Aberdeen Convention & Visitor Bureau, Casey Weismantel discussed events they help promote in 2025.

Weismantel talked about the funding they get from the city to help do that.

Councilman Alan Johnson expressed concerns about government getting too involved in the process.

Johnson believed what was presented during the work session is an improvement.

Also addressed was funding for a program at the K.O.Lee Public Library.  It’s call Table of Plenty.  Librarian Cara Perrion describe what that is.

Perrion talked the motivation to create this.

The council hopes to have resolution in place to address the fund in future meetings.  One other item scheduled to be discussed during the work session was the golf course the city owns.  Due to time constraints, that wasn’t addressed.  They hope to do that at a future work session.
