SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (WNAX) – Drenching rains and violent storms hit across eastern South Dakota this week. Three tornados hit Sioux Falls and fields in both Lincoln and Minnehaha Counties received 3 to 9 inches of rain. Minnehaha County Farm Service Agency Executive Director Leah Turgeson says this week’s moisture left standing water and created some erosion problems.
She says the major concern for farmers will be if they’re able to get things dried out enough to get their harvesting done before frost arrives.
Lincoln County Farm Service Agency Director Lynn Chilson says they had some minor crop damage and some buildings were destroyed by the storm.
Both counties had a lot of prevented plant acres this year with Minnehaha County recording just over 93,000 acres prevented plant.
