Recreational marijuana may return to the ballot in 2024

ABERDEEN, S.D.(HubCityRadio)- Coming up in 2024 maybe another opportunity to cast a vote to legalize recreational marijuana.  Executive Director for South Dakotans for Better Marijuana Laws, Matthew Schweich is hoping for that.

Schweich compare this Initiated Measure that could be voted on to IM27 that failed in 2022.

On Friday, Attorney General Marty Jackley release his explanation of this inititated measure.  Schweich was all right with the exception of two key points.  The first dealing with the word distribution in the title.

The other issue involves the final sentence Attorney General Jackley wrote.

While this could be on the ballot, another Initiated Measure brought up by Travis Ismay of Newell would look to try to repeal the Medical Marijuana Program.  Schweich offered his take on that.

If this does make it to the ballot, Schweich believes there will be bipartisan support for this measure.

Schweich looks to start gathering signatures for this measure beginning at around October 1st.
