PIERRE, S.D.(WNAX)- The House and Senate Redistricting Committees of the South Dakota legislature meet Monday in Pierre. Its their first gathering since the release of the 2020 Census information. The committee must come up with new legislative district maps.

House Committee member, Representative Ryan Cwach of Yankton says they have to get a lot done in a short time.

Cwach says they will get reports and set some direction.

Cwach says growing areas of the state will take more time to remap.

Cwach says its like changing one piece of a puzzle and then making all the other pieces fit. A special legislative session is scheduled for November to approve the new maps.

The meeting will begin at 10am.
