Redistricting Committee wrapped up their public forums in Sioux Falls

SIOUX FALLS, S.D.(WNAX)- The House and Senate Legislative Redistricting Committees of the South Dakota legislature wrapped up three days of public hearings with a pair of meetings in Sioux Falls Wednesday.

Bon Homme County Auditor Tamara Brunken told the group that they need to avoid splitting voting precincts.

Union County Commission Chairman Milton Ustad shared a resolution they passed.

Committee member, Senator Michael Diedrich of Rapid City says they continue to refine the map ideas.

The South Dakota Joint Redistricting Committee next meeting is set for Monday, October 18th in Pierre where they’ll comment on the feedback the committee received from their tour of the state.

The legislators on the committee have to come up with a recommended legislative district map for the special session to consider on November 8th.
