Redistricting ruling will be tested following next census

CANTON, S.D. (WNAX) – The U.S. Supreme Court recently ruled that redistricting is a political question, not reviewable by federal courts.

That ruling will be tested when new lines are drawn in 2021 following the next census.

Senator Jim Bolin of Canton is one of two members still serving in the legislature that was on the redistricting committee in 2011.

Bolin, a Republican, says the state’s districts were not challenged in court.

Bolin says they also worked with local officials in drawing up legislative districts.

Its expected more legislators will move toward Sioux Falls and Rapid City in 2021.
