Reece Beck, 58, of Spearfish, SD passed away peacefully at home with his beloved wife, Hazel, at his side on Sunday, April 19, 2026, after a long illness. Cremation has taken place.
Born August 3, 1967, in Britton, SD to parents, Marvin and Doris “Tug” (Thayer) Beck, joining his three older siblings in being raised on the family farm located West of Britton. Attending school locally, he graduated from Britton High School in 1986. Reece loved playing basketball in school and later became a referee for various basketball groups. There was plenty of work at the farm, but growing up with his siblings and numerous cousins meant shared times filled with laughter and playful pranks. Many life skills were instilled, and he passionately carried those throughout his life. Reece’s interests included: fishing, camping, 4-wheeling, motorcycling, bowling, poker games, and family times together.
Reece will be lovingly remembered by his seven children who he wholeheartedly embraced through adoption in a previous chapter. Instilling values of presence and support, Reece built a home filled with laughter, unconditional love, support, and comfort. They enjoyed many activities through the years as the kids grew. He loved to clean and shared his passion with his children in keeping everything spotless.
Reece found genuine love of devotion when he met Hazel in February 2016 at Table 3 of the well-known Loud American located in Sturgis, SD during a LA Jam Night. They married May 20, 2017, and lived true to their vows to one another. With that, Reece gained a stepson and daughter-in-law, along with seven additional grandchildren to love. Living in the Black Hills, Reece and Hazel cherished their time together exploring the Black Hills by motorcycle, 4-wheeler, or hiking while camping, and fishing. Reece and Hazel enjoyed the area taking in concerts, bowling, Sturgis Dragway, Rapid City Rush Hockey games, rodeos, snocross snowmobile racing, historical monuments, and other area events. Walks with their dogs, Dixie and Penny, through City Park while listening to the waters of Spearfish Creek brought happiness to them. Reece dearly loved the children in his life and thoroughly enjoyed spending time with his nieces, nephews, and all ten grandchildren sharing love of their activities and sports as he was able.
A man of integrity, Reece was known for his honesty and strong work ethic. His sense of responsibility and care extended beyond his family and work life to numerous friends he acquainted throughout his life. He had a contagious smile, a huge heart of gold, and was always willing to lend a helpful hand to anyone in need. Throughout his career, Reece worked mostly in trucking, sales, and marketing. In his spare time, Reece enjoyed driving the trolley in Deadwood, SD of people visiting the Black Hills area. At the time of his passing, Reece was employed by CBH Co-op in Sturgis SD as their Energy Sales Representative selling oil, propane, and fuel; a job he truly loved.
Reece is preceded in death by his father, paternal and maternal grandparents, and a nephew, Brock Olson.
