Regents approve policy that could require face masks on campuses

BROOKINGS, S.D. (WNAX) – The South Dakota Board of Regents has approved a policy that could require face masks in most public areas on university campuses.

Regents General Counsel Nathan Lukkes says they have been working quickly on the policy.

Lukkes says they will have multiple options in the policy.

Level one would require the use in close contact classrooms and labs, while level four would require face masks in all public indoor and outdoor areas.

Lukkes says university presidents can recommend changes in the level on their own campus.

All campuses will start at tier three, which would require masks in all public indoor areas. On campus classes start Aug. 19.
